If I had to choose a favorite Harley-Davidson bagger, it would be the Road King. I like the bike’s classic look, it fits me well, and I’m not a big fan of windshields or fairings when I ride. More importantly, it is a terrific platform for creating a custom bike. East Coast Super Bikes (ECSB) transformed this one into its idea of the King of Kings from a stock 2013 Harley-Davidson of the Road King persuasion. Working over a six-month period, the shop went over every aspect of the motorcycle, from diving into the motor to crowning the finished machine with a two-up saddle from Speed By Design. ECSB’s Dennis Earley put in a lot of work morphing the Road King into what you see before you.
Although the Twin Cam powerplant only displaces 103 inches, its internal parts were upgraded with Screamin’ Eagle guts to make the bike a ripper. ECSB reworked the rake and stretched the frame to accommodate a Mad Industries 30-inch front hoop set in Vee Rubber. Seeing as how the back wheel would be covered by a Speed By Design fender and bracketed by saddlebags, the shop decided not to swap out the rear wheel, instead leaving it in place along with the stock rotor and caliper.
If you’re going to call a motorcycle the King of Kings, it better look the part. Stock skin doesn’t scream “regal.” Speed By Design provided the sleek new raiment that gives this King its royal look; you know it better as the sheet metal package.
