The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out Monday, and just like we knew he would, a man won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series! Oh, you want to know which man won?

That would be Matthew Rhys, who finally took home the Emmy for his incredible performance as Philip Jennings on FX’s critically beloved drama The Americans. And it’s a good thing he won too, because this was the series’ final year of eligibility; it signed off after six seasons earlier this year. Minutes earlier The Americans‘ walked always away with its first Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Unfortunately, Rhys’ co-star Keri Russell lost the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series to The Crown‘s Claire Foy.

Matthew Rhys, The Americans

Rhys is just the latest actor to take home an Emmy in his show’s final season. Kyle Chandler and Jon Hamm walked away with statuettes during the final seasons of Friday Night Lights and Mad Men, respectively. Talk about waiting until the last possible minute, Emmy voters!

On his way to the podium, Rhys beat out Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), who took home the Emmy last season, as well as Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), Jason Bateman (Ozark), Ed Harris (Westworld), and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld).
