The shared universe of The Vampire Diaries is seeming pretty immortal at this point, considering even as its first spin-off, The Originals, wraps up its final season, its second spin-off, Legacies, is just about to premiere!

While The Originals dove headfirst into the lives of Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) and his siblings in New Orleans, Legacies will pick up where the story left off with his daughter, Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), as she attends a boarding school for magical children in Mystic Falls. There, vampires, witches and werewolves live together in peace, free to be who they are instead of hiding in the shadows. It’s a great concept (very X-Men meets Charmed), and we’re slowly learning more and more about this exciting new series.

Here’s everything we know so far about Legacies and how its first season will unfold on The CW!

It will premiere Thursday, October 25 at 9/8c on The CW. Legacies will be taking over Arrow‘s spot on Thursday nights. Supernatural will be its lead-in, which could put some good eyeballs on the new series.

The story will center on Hope Mikaelson. Hope’s time at school has only been briefly touched on in the fifth season of The Originals, but we’ll be living there full time with her on Legacies. She’ll face the bullies of Mystic Falls High and the mean girls of the Salvatore Boarding School, plus all the supernatural threats that come with being the tribrid daughter of Klaus Mikaelson.

There will be a time jump. Danielle Rose Russell confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that Hope will be 17-years-old when the show kicks off, giving it a two-year time jump from the end of The Originals. That will officially make Hope the same age Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) was when The Vampire Diaries launched.

Klaus and the Mikaelsons will not be on the show. None of The Originals leads have signed on to continue their roles on Legacies, meaning Hope’s family will be out of sight but not out of mind when the show premieres.

Alaric will be a main character. The Vampire Diaries veteran Matt Davis — aka Alaric Saltzman, occult expert extraordinaire — has signed on as a series regular. As a professor at The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted, Alaric will play a major role in the series, probably in much the same capacity as he did on The Vampire Diaries. It’s always good to have an expert in the spooky stuff hanging around.

Caroline (Candice King) and Alaric’s twins will be part of the show too. Josie and Lizzy Saltzman also attend Hope’s boarding school, and they’ve got a bit of a mean girl reputation. Don’t worry though, The Vampire Diaries fans will remember that Caroline Forbes also started out as a bit of a mean girl before the show developed her into a complex and incredibly beloved character.

Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) will appear in the first episode. Julie Plec confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that Sheriff Matt Donovan will appear in the Legacies pilot this fall.

There will be a a bunch of new, original characters at the school. Lots of familiar faces will pop up in Legacies, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be devoid of shiny new faces. A character named Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) will be a hot werewolf with anger management issues. M.G. will be a new, female vampire character at the school. Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) will be a townie who has caught Hope’s eye. To name a few!

No Salvatore children will appear. Damon (Ian Somherlader) and Elena may have lived happily ever after, but don’t expect them to send their kids to the Salvatore Boarding School.

Legacies premieres Thursday, October 25 at 9/8c on The CW.
