And just like that, the Great War is over — and it was amazing. (Spoilers ahead!)

In the longest episode in Game of Thrones history, the army of the dead — and yes, the Night King — were finally defeated. Which easily makes this a Hall-of-Fame episode of Game of Thrones.

The astonishing — and long — Battle of Winterfell did not disappoint. “The Long Night” could have easily been a massacre for the living, if it wasn’t for Arya Stark, who was able to say “not today” to the god of death, and assassinate the Night King before he could murder the Three-Eyed Raven.

Even though Arya is the real MVP, she needed some help along the way from Sandor “The Hound” Clegane and the now-dead Beric Dondarrion and Melisandre.

Sadly, those two weren’t the only ones who gave their life for the living.

Lyanna Mormont went out in a blaze of glory by stabbing a wight giant in the eye in her final act. Theon Greyjoy was handily killed by the Night King. And Jorah Mormont sadly died while protecting Daenerys Targaryen.

Their deaths are noteworthy and very sad. But they can’t compare to the jaw-dropping demise of the Night King — a moment that made “The Long Night” one unforgettable episode. Plus, we got epic in-air dragon fights, heart-stopping battle sequences, and, of course, Arya being Arya.

Clocking in at 82 minutes, “The Long Night” absolutely lived up to the hype. But where does the third episode in the eighth season of Game of Thrones rank?
