But we get it: it’s hard. Costumes take thought, effort, money, and the most precious resource of all — time — to pull off. Getting those imaginative juices flowing can present quite the challenge when you’ve got a million things going on, which is why TV Guide decided to come through with, ahem, a guide to the best TV-inspired outfits early so you can knock that one big little thing off the list in advance.

But HBO’s disaster porn series Chernobyl was one of the most-watched shows of the year and, well, Halloween is the one time of year that forgives bad taste. (Up to a point. Let Megyn Kelly be a lesson in what not to consider wearing for a costume.) Lean into the end-of-the-world look with a Hazmat suit and an exterminator sprayer.

Spoiler alert: Game of Thrones‘ final season sucked dragon eggs. Still, it’ll live on in TV infamy till infinity, making a Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) or Cersei (Lena Headey) homage forever timeless. You can give these iconic characters a 2019 twist by zombifying them; add your best dead makeup to a Daenerys or Cersei costume and you’re ready to battle fanboys who’ll insist you got something wrong.
