A 50-year-old Long Island man has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk with his two 11-year-old sons in the car after smashing his wife’s phone during an argument, authorities say.
Police stopped Kenneth Kakareko on Lawson Boulevard in Oceanside around 1:30 a.m. Monday and say his breath smelled like alcohol and he had glassy eyes and slurred speech. He was arrested; cops noticed his two young boys in the car and he was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law.
Police say they later learned Kakareko had gotten into a verbal argument with his wife earlier that day and smashed her phone. The nature of that argument wasn’t clear. He is also charged with criminal mischief, among other infractions.
Attorney information for the man wasn’t clear.
