How does American Horror Story: Apocalypse only have one episode left? And not just one episode, but one regular length episode! This series used to be 13 episodes a season and regularly include extended episodes, but Apocalypse, the first crossover season, only gets 10 episodes with a single supersized one, which was granted to the anticipated Murder House installment.

But seriously, in a season that weaves together new characters with those from Murder House and Coven — not to mention all the flashbacks within the flashbacks — there’s just been a lot to get through in Apocalypse, and we don’t feel like any storyline is close to wrapping up yet, let alone all of them. But here we are, with less than an hour of screentime left in which Ryan Murphy will allegedly wrap up all the loose threads in the pre- and post-apocalypse storylines. It’s a huge undertaking, but one that star Billie Lourd promises will be “satisfying” to fans.

To be honest, though, we won’t be fully satisfied unless these 13 questions are answered.

1. How does the timeline line up? This has been the question bugging fans since the season premiere, which saw the entire world be destroyed by nuclear bombs in the year 2019. However, given that we saw Billie Dean Howard (Sarah Paulson) in Hotel in the year 2022, this just didn’t seem to fit with the larger AHS continuity. Based on Mallory’s (Lourd) powers, it’s likely that she’ll go back in time to prevent the apocalypse. But how far back will she go, and what events will be erased and what will remain?

2. What’s the deal with Timothy and Emily’s DNA? We couldn’t really give two flips about Timothy (Kyle Allen) and Emily (Ashley Santos), the two most boring characters in the season, but the first three episodes of Apocalypse made such a big deal out of them, the Adam and Eve symbolism and their so-called special DNA that we have to assume they’ll play some larger role. Otherwise, what was even the point? Are they aliens? Are they the parents of the new Antichrist? Please, just tell us why we had to suffer through their brief love story.

3. Will Mallory become the next Supreme? With Cordelia (Paulson) fading and Mallory’s powers growing, will the finale see Cordelia sacrifice herself so that the new Supreme can rise? We sure hope not, because Cordelia should just be hitting her prime, not the end of her days. Why did Fiona (Jessica Lange) get such a long reign while her daughter would be shafted like this? We demand answers!

4. WTF is Brock doing? The last time we were in the post-apocalyptic timeline, Coco’s (Leslie Grossman) ex Brock (Billy Eichner) had just snuck into the outpost and killed her. What Brock didn’t know is that the Antichrist and his robot sidekick had just slaughtered the rest of the outpost’s residents. So when the witches show up to face down Michael, what the hell is Brock going to do?

5. Is Mallory just a witch — or something more? With the huge role the Bible has played this season, it does seem likely that Mallory isn’t just a regular ol’ witch or even just the Supreme. She appears to be the inverse of Michael in so many ways, which is why fans keep speculating that she’s some form of celestial being. Even though Lourd appears to laugh off these theories, we won’t believe anything until the show confirms one way or another.

6. How will Coco’s powers come into play? Cordelia kept hinting to Coco that her ability to sense gluten in food and psychically know calorie counts has the potential to grow into some very helpful power. But how? What? Huh? There’s been all this set up surrounding Coco’s abilities, and we just want to see how it pays off!

7. Did the song about aliens matter at all? In the outpost, it initially seemed as though the music that was played on repeat might be sending messages. Fans quickly latched on to one of the songs, the Carpenters’ cover of “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft,” which is about humans asking aliens to help them save the world. At first, they assumed this meant that Timothy and Emily were somehow tied to Kit Walker (Evan Peters) and the aliens from Asylum, but that doesn’t appear to be the case now. Could it perhaps be hinting toward an alien-centric ninth season, though?

Billie Lourd Promises the American Horror Story: Apocalypse Finale Will Provide “Satisfying” Answers to All Your Questions

8. Where’s Misty? After Misty (Lily Rabe) returned and reunited with her idol Stevie Nicks, she went off to reacclimatize to the world. But is that really it for her? Where did she go? What’s she doing? And please tell us that we’ll see her again!

9. Where the heck is Kyle? At this point, they’ve brought back pretty much everyone from Coven, dead or alive. And yet Zoe’s (Taissa Farmiga) main squeeze Kyle (Peters) is nowhere to be found and they haven’t even addressed his absence in passing! What gives? It’s not like Peters wasn’t available. He’s literally played four others characters this season, including reprising his roles from Hotel and Murder House, so why not Kyle?

10. How did the witches survive the apocalypse? There’s pretty much no way that the finale won’t answer this question, but you really can’t take anything for granted with it comes to this show. We really just need a clear answer, no matter how ridiculous, to how Cordelia, Myrtle (Frances Conroy) and Madison (Emma Roberts) survived the End of Days. Based on the trailer, it appears as though they wind up buried underground and have to dig themselves out, but we have no theories on what they were doing down there or even where “down there” is.

11. Can Michael be redeemed? We’ve seen again and again that there is good in Michael. Mead’s (Kathy Bates) death does seem to be a have been a turning point for him toward the side of Satan once and for all, but he still feels more interested in avenging Mead than actually ending the world. Based on this pic of Fern in a bathtub, we have a feeling Michael will be doing some time traveling of his own in the finale. Maybe there’s a way he’ll wind up doing his part to go back and reverse the apocalypse himself. Or maybe he is the Antichrist through and through, and it’s too late for any of the good in him to shine through.

12. Will Dinah get what’s coming to her? After she betrayed the coven and got Cordelia’s girls killed, we can’t believe that Cordelia chose to resurrect Dinah (Adina Porter) at Outpost 3. But based on these hints that the former Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) will be returning in the finale, we’re hoping that together Marie and Cordelia will make sure that Dinah’s betrayal doesn’t go unpunished.

13. Is this really the end of Apocalypse? With only one episode to go, it still feels like there’s still so much story with these characters and this world left to tell. That’s why so many fans are theorizing that Murphy might break form once again and give us the first two-part season, with the upcoming ninth installment continuing the storylines set up in Apocalypse. It’s highly improbable, but it wasn’t too long ago that all the seasons weren’t even supposed to be connected. The show has already evolved so much over the years, we wouldn’t really be too shocked if Murphy decided to go for it.

The American Horror Story: Apocalypse finale airs Wednesday at 10/9c on FX.
