Bravo is developing a reboot of Queer as Folk, the groundbreaking drama series that ran for five seasons on Showtime in the early ’00s, TV Guide has confirmed.

This will be the third version of the series, which follows the lives and relationships of a group of young gay men. The first was a British series that ran for 10 episodes in 1999 and 2000 and starred Aiden Gillen and Charlie Hunnam. The second, Canadian-American version starred Gale Harold, Randy Harrison, Hal Sparks, Peter Paige, and Scott Lowell and ran for five seasons on Showtime. It is notable for showing the first sex scene between two men on American television.

The new version will be executive-produced by Russell T Davies, the creator of the original U.K. series, and written by Stephen Dunn. It will follow a new set of characters in a new setting (the earlier series were set in Manchester and Pittsburgh, respectively).

Variety was the first to report the news and described the new series as a “modern take on the original British series that centers on a group of club-going friends who find support in the gay community following a tragedy.”
