The Boston Celtics on Wednesday waived big man Guerschon Yabusele, a fan favorite who had averaged only 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds over two seasons.

Yabusele was one of the Celtics’ three first-round draft picks in 2016, at No. 16. They had taken forward Jaylen Brown with the No. 3 pick. Yabusele, considered one of the best international prospects at the time, spent his first year in China.

He was seen as a raw talent but failed to develop in his time with the team. He never found a permanent spot in the rotation, though fans and social media loved it when the “Dancing Bear” did his bow-dab celebration after hitting a three.

The Celtics owe Yabusele $3.1 million for the 2019 season.

Cutting ties with him could open a spot on the roster for training camp signee Tacko Fall, the 7-foot-6 former UCF center who has been the star of the summer league for the Celtics. If not, it would allow them to add a more proven commodity.
