PHOENIX — Suns guard Devin Booker strained his left hamstring and left late in the third quarter in Wednesday’s 131-113 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Booker pulled up on a drive and grabbed his hamstring before pointing to the Suns’ bench to ask out with 1:41 remaining in the third quarter. He gingerly walked back to the bench under his own power but did not return as the Suns lost without their leading scorer.

“I just took a bad step and felt it,” Booker told reporters afterward. “I’m going to sleep it off, and tomorrow I’ll have a better understanding of what’s going on.”

Booker had offseason surgery on his hand in early September but returned in time for the start of the regular season. He is averaging 27.7 points and 6.7 assists in four games.

“I’m very concerned,” rookie center Deandre Ayton said. “I didn’t really see him [when he got injured]. I just saw the whole arena got quiet, and I see him walking off the court. I just got a little worried. Hope it’s not too serious.”
