Fans slam Joss Whedon’s Buffy reboot on Twitter – Today’s News: Our Take

A reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is in the works, but some fans of the original series want to put a stake in it.

News broke Friday that Buffy creator Joss Whedon is teaming up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. co-executive producer Monica Owusu-Breen to develop a reboot starring a black actress in the titular role. 20th Century Fox’s Fox 21 TV Studios will produce; the project has yet to land a network.

Fan reactions on social media ranged from elated to furious.

“I’ve been WAITING and WAITING for this buffy reboot for the past GOD knows how many years and i FINALLY RECEIVE no one is raining on my parade!!!! today is a good day!!!!” wrote Twitter user @bargalaxies.

“THIS IS THE BEST NEWS IN ALL OF HISTORY!!!!!!!,” tweeted @JustinCentric.

But plenty of fans seemed loath to sink their teeth into a potential reboot.

“I already have to deal with this JOKE of a reboot for Charmed, now you want to mess with Buffy?! Literally my two favorite shows of all time and two of the most influential shows ever……just try to be creative for ONCE and make something new!” wrote Twitter user @jisy06.

I love Buffy and it was a huge part of my childhood, but it really doesn’t need a reboot, Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be the slayer.
