Good Omens Petition Demands Netflix Cancel the Amazon Limited Series

Another day, another petition to have a show canceled by a group who doesn’t like what the show is depicting. Today’s petition is aimed at Amazon Prime Video‘s Good Omens and comes to us from Return to Order. Over 20,000 Christians have signed the petition to have the show canceled. There are just a few problems with that.

First, the show was always intended to be a limited series, a one-and-done, so the first season is the only season of the show (and it’s not like you can cancel a limited series… after it’s aired?). And secondly, and this is actually the bigger issue, the petition is aimed at Netflix. Not Amazon Prime Video, where the show is actually housed.

According to The Guardian (since the petition has sadly since been removed), the petition cited things about the Michael Sheen and David Tennant show that suggest it’s “another step to make satanism appear normal, light and acceptable,” and “mocks God’s wisdom.” Those who signed also don’t like that God is voiced by Oscar winner Frances McDormand and that “this type of video makes light of Truth, Error, Good and Evil, and destroys the barriers of horror that society still has for the devil.” And it was addressed to Netflix, which had zero to do with Good Omens.

Neil Gaiman, who wrote the novel the show is based on with Terry Pratchett, caught wind of the petition on Twitter and responded to it how only Gaiman could — with sass.

Twitter is fully in on this joke now, wondering such things like if Season 2 is no longer happening, and why Netflix would seemingly scrub the show from its catalog so quickly.

Neither Prime Video nor Netflix has actually responded to the petition, but honestly, it’s only a matter of time.
