Huge, Affectionate Bulldog Knocks Over US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as She Takes a Conference Call

A beefy English bulldog named Charlie is one of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s most devoted constituents.

Ocasio-Cortez, the U.S. Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, was on a conference call in the Bronx last summer when Charlie spotted her walking.  

A video posted to Twitter Thursday (in honor of #NationalLoveYourPetDay the day before) by Charlie’s owner, comedian Simone Norman, shows the moment Ocasio-Cortez’s adoring Parkchester canine constituent decided to say hello.

The congresswoman appears to have been knocked over by the affectionate pup onto a street grate, and is seen laughing as Charlie licks her face. “Charlie, she’s on a call!” Norman is heard saying. 

Twitter users were typically quick off the mark with political jokes. “Don’t be suckered, this is just politics as usual. Big Kibble is sending out their top lobbyists,” Rob Amrose commented.

Many commented that dogs were a good judge of character, and some joked that birds were too, comparing the incident to when President Trump was nearly attacked by a bald eagle during a shoot with Time magazine. 

Ocasio-Cortez took it all in good humor, reposting the video on Twitter and calling the incident a “snuggle ambush.”

The clip has had more than 3.5 million views.
