Lucifer has once again escaped the clutches of cancellation!

After nabbing it from Fox’s cancellation bin, Netflix has decided not to make its Lucifer pickup a one-off, according to TVLine, which announced today that the show has officially been renewed for Season 5. Hallelujah! God does not give with both hands, however, and the renewal news comes with an announcement that the fifth season of Lucifer will also be its the final one.

Season 4 was rife with tension between Chloe (Lauren German) and Lucifer (Tom Ellis) as she grappled with seeing his devil face and realizing he actually was the fallen angel he’d always claimed to be. Unfortunately, just as she finally learned to accept him for exactly who he was, disaster struck and demons began to rise from hell, desperate for their king to return home. Thanks a lot, Eve (Inbar Lavi). Knowing his loved ones would never be safe if he stayed on Earth, Lucifer exchanged bittersweet “I love yous” with Chloe before reluctantly returning to his lonely throne in hell.

How unsatisfying an ending would that have been?

This renewal gives us hope for a reunion between these two star-crossed lovers as well as the opportunity for Eve and Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) to figure out whether they can actually turn their complicated attraction into a real relationship. Plus, do we now get the Nephilim adventures of Linda (Rachael Harris) and Amenadiel’s (D.B. Woodside) newborn son? Please say yes! Plus, something tells us that prophecy about Lucifer’s first love has not completely played itself out yet.

The first four seasons of Lucifer are currently streaming on Netflix.
