Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Is Renewed for Season 7

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is sticking around for at least another year. Ahead of the Season 6 premiere, ABC has renewed the live-action comic book series for a 13-episode seventh season, Deadline reports.

This is great news for fans who were worried the show might be on its last leg. Rumors of its cancellation circulated earlier this year when it was announced that Season 6 would be cut from its usual 22-episode count to just 13 and wouldn’t premiere until 2019. However, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey previously assured fans that S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn’t going anywhere. “I think the season we just had, Season 5, was their creatively strongest yet. So I don’t, at the moment, have any plans to think of Season 6 as the last season,” she said.

When S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for Season 6 in 2019, it will have to address the fates of two characters: Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Coulson (Clark Gregg). Season 5 ended on a heartbreaking note with Fitz gasping for his final breath as May (Ming Na Wen) and Mac (Henry Simmons) looked on. And while this version of him might be dead, there’s also an alternate, future version of him still floating somewhere in space. When the gang eventually meets up with Future Fitz, they’ll be faced with an entirely different person who doesn’t have the same memories — including proposing to Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge).

Meanwhile, Coulson was last seen living out his final days with May in Tahiti. Though we didn’t actually see him die, all signs point to him being a goner. That is unless he’s somehow resurrected again. But how many second chances can he get?
