She’s back!

Netflix has revealed the trailer for the third and final season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, and the streaming service’s last MCU series looks to be going out with a bang.

The season will pit its eponymous heroine (played by Krysten Ritter) against a smart new psychopath, which will require Jessica and Trish (Rachael Taylor) to work together to vanquish the villain. However, their relationship is still as strained as ever, and after they suffer a devastating loss, they’ll learn a thing or two about each other’s divergent views on heroism.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in conjunction with the trailer’s debut, creator Melissa Rosenberg explained that Jones is found at the start of Season 3 trying to “finally put these hero powers and objective to the test.”

“She’s actually really stepped into the position that her mother had hoped for her,” she added. “Her mother believed that she had a hero in her, and defined heroes as ‘somebody who gives a sh– and does something about it.'”

As teased in the trailer, however, that doesn’t last long as the new villain, serial killer Gregory Salinger (Jeremy Bobb), pushes Jones’ buttons and openly questions whether she’s a hero or a fraud.

“Salinger is a deeply scarred individual, and he just, by coincidence, crosses paths with Jessica,” Rosenberg said. “For him, everything about her offends him, [specifically] the fact that she’s got these powers not through hard work but through some other means. This is someone who has worked very hard himself. But he’s a very twisted dude.”

The new season will run for 13 episodes and mark the final bow for Netflix’s partnership with Marvel. Ahead of Season 3’s debut, Jessica Jones was canceled in February alongside The Punisher. The news was largely expected at the time, since Netflix had already given the ax to Marvel’s Iron Fist, Marvel’s Luke Cage, and Marvel’s Daredevil.

Jessica Jones Season 3 debuts on Netflix on Friday, June 14 with Ritter, Taylor, Bobb, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Benjamin Walker in starring roles. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream on Netflix.
