The gesture was widely misinterpreted, with people suggesting on social media that the Queen was “scolding” Anne for not greeting US President Donald Trump.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte could be seen laughing together with Anne in the widely circulated clip.
By Wednesday, “Princess Anne” was top of UK Twitter trends.
In recently released season 3, Erin Doherty’s no nonsense portrayal of the young princess seems to have struck a chord with audiences as her feisty nature and romantic life were brought to the small screen.
Anne is also considered to be one of the hardest working royals.
According to Buckingham Palace, Anne has “one of the busiest working schedules of any member of the royal family” — involved with more than 300 charities, organizations and military regiments, the princess spends a lot of her time on official engagements and visits, both at home and overseas.
She’s a keen horse rider, and even competed in the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976 in the British equestrian team.
