The CW is developing yet another DC Comics superhero series.

A Batwoman series is in the works from The Vampire Diaries‘ Caroline Dries and superproducer Greg Berlanti, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Accoding to THR, “Batwoman revolves around Kate Kane, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope. “

A casting search for the role of Batwoman will begin soon. It was previously announced that the character will be introduced in December during the Arrowverse’s annual crossover. It will be the first time Batwoman has ever appeared in a live-action production.

Batwoman has a long comics history, first appearing in 1956, but the modern Batwoman era started in 2006. The character was originally introduced as a love interest for Bruce Wayne to combat allegations of homosexuality in the Batman comics, but when the Kate Kane character was reintroduced, she was a lesbian, and was said to be the most high-profile gay DC Comics character. She was inspired by Batman but operated independently of him.

Should Batwoman go to series, it will be the sixth DC show on the CW, joining Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning.
