Nina Dobrev‘s exit from The Vampire Diaries in 2015 also marked her exit from TV in general — at least in a series regular capacity — but she’s looking to end that with her latest gig.

Deadline reports that Dobrev will star in a new CBS comedy pilot called Fam as Clem, a woman whose life is upended when her younger half-sister Shannon and Shannon’s fiancee come to live with her to escape their train-wreck of a father.

Clem is described as “grounded, deeply funny, quick-witted and outspoken,” and also a bit of a charmer. While she may have been a hot mess in her younger years, Clem has worked hard to become her “best self” since then. Part of that new image includes telling everyone that her father is dead, when in reality he’s just too much of an embarrassment for her to ever claim him. Clem’s sister showing up means that her little lie is about to become a big problem for everyone in her life.

It’s no surprise that Dobrev has chosen a comedy for her first project back on TV since she’s taken on several comedic roles in her film career in movies like xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Let’s Be Cops. Here’s hoping she’s got the chops to keep getting big laughs on a weekly basis.
