Time Traveler’s Wife Being Adapted Into a TV Series By Steven Moffat – Today’s News: Our Take

After stepping down from his post as showrunner of Doctor Who in 2016, Steven Moffat is jumping back into the time travel game with an adaption that nobody asked for, Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife.

Moffat, who’s been heavily criticized for his portrayal of the one-sided romance between Sherlock Holmes and Molly Hooper on his critically-acclaimed BBC series Sherlock, will again try his hand at romance to hopefully better results. HBO has already ordered the adaptation to series, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Moffat revealed that he’s a huge fan of the novel and even wrote a Doctor Who episode inspired by it. “I read Audrey Niffenegger’s The Time Traveler’s Wife many years ago, and I fell in love with it,” he told the trade. “In fact, I wrote a Doctor Who episode called ‘The Girl In the Fireplace’ as a direct response to it.” The 2006 Doctor Who episode, which featured David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, took place in 18th-century France and centered on Madame de Pompadour (Sophia Myles) who was being stalked throughout time by androids.

However, it looks like there won’t be much stalking on Moffat’s Time Traveler’s Wife series. The sci-fi drama is described as an “intricate and magical love story that tells the story of Clare and Henry, and a marriage with a problem… time travel.” Moffat will write the script and executive-produce alongside Sue Vertue, who he teamed up with on Sherlock, and Brian Minchin, who he worked with on Doctor Who. It’s still early in the process so the show doesn’t have a premiere date as of yet and casting has not yet begun.

The Time Traveler’s Wife was previously adapted into a 2009 movie starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana which you should definitely see. As for Moffat’s version, the jury’s still out on that one.
