American Gods‘ long-awaited next chapter is coming closer to fruition, with Starz releasing a trailer for Season 2, which is slated for 2019, during New York Comic Con.

American Gods is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s 2001 novel of the same name and tells the story of Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), a common thief who gets dragged by the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) into a brewing turf war between the Old Gods — ancient pagan gods like Anubis (Chris Obi) and Ostara (Kristin Chenoweth) — and the New, who take the form of technology and mass media. Season 1 was all about Mr. Wednesday and Shadow trying to enlist Old Gods to support the cause (as well as Shadow’s dead wife Laura’s [Emily Browning] quest to come back to life and reunite with her husband), and the story came to a head in the season finale, when Mr. Wednesday revealed himself to be the Norse god Odin and he and Ostara threw the first stone at the New Gods.

The trailer looked like it met the high standard of production value set by Season 1. It showed the Old Gods like Czernobog (Peter Stormare) and Mr. Nancy (Orlando Jones) all sharing a dinner table, Whittle looking good in a lavender shirt and, most excitingly, Mr. Wednesday (McShane) going full Odin in a Marvelesque special effects shot with a cloud of purple lightning swirling around him.

Season 2 has had behind-the-scenes drama including showrunner turnover and significant delays, but hopefully they pull it together to deliver a second season that’s as good as Season 1.

American Gods Season 2 is coming to Starz in 2019.

Correction: A previous version of this story misidentified the color of Whittle’s shirt. It is lavender, not pink.
