Welcome back to the Upside Down.

Netflix has finally unveiled the trailer for the third season of Stranger Things, and it looks like the Hawkins kids are going to be growing up and apart before the show’s newest mega-monster brings them all back together. In a particularly sobering moment of voice over, we hear Mike (Finn Wolfhard) ask the others, “What did you think? We were going to sit in my basement and play games for the rest of our lives?” as Will (Noah Schnapp) sheds a nostalgic tear over their Ghostbusters Halloween get-ups.

It starts out happy enough. Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) returns from camp to find his electronic toys running amok, and it looks like it’s a prank from his pal Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), based on the fact that her nose starts to bleed while she and the others wait to surprise him with a warm welcome home.

Then things start to get pretty bleak. Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) look particularly bummed out in their shot, and Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) are obviously suffering as well. More importantly, there seems to be some new/old supernatural mayhem afoot, as we get a glimpse of an electric storm hovering over town, and the kids’ merry trip to the mall looks to become a battleground. Oh, and if that weren’t enough, there’s a new toothy claw monster waiting in the wings to rip everyone to shreds!

It kinda feels like home by now, doesn’t it?

Stranger Things: Everything We Know About Season 3

The Stranger Things 3 trailer also introduces a few new faces, including Cary Elwes as Mayor Kline. The upcoming season will also bring along Jake Busey as a local journalist named Bruce and Maya Hawke as Robin, an alternative girl who discovers a secret about Hawkins. Check out the gallery below for first-look images of the new season.

Stranger Things 3 is expected to take place in 1985, with movies like Back to the Future, John Carpenter’s The Thing, George A. Romero’s zombie saga, and David Cronenberg’s films acting as the pop culture influences at play in the nostalgia-centric series.

If the trailer didn’t give you enough to theorize over, Season 3’s episodes will be called “Suzie, Do You Copy?,” “The Mall Rats,” “The Case of the Missing Lifeguard,” “The Sauna Test,” “The Source,” “The Birthday,” “The Bite,” and “The Battle of Starcourt.” Judging by the shot of Elle all blooded up in the mall shoot, we’re guessing that last title refers to the season’s big fight.

We’ll have to wait and see when Stranger Things 3 arrives on Netflix this July 4.
