Despite all the hubbub surrounding it, the controversial series Who Is America? might not be returning for a second season on Showtime. Star Sacha Baron Cohen tweeted the news Sunday ahead of the show’s finale. “Tonight, is the last EVER show of “Who is America,” he wrote. But on Tuesday, Showtime told TV Guide that no official decision has been made regarding Season 2 at this time.
Showtime CEO and president David Nevins told reporters at the Television Critics Press Association summer press tour in July that he was “dying to bring [the show] back.”
Still, would we really be surprised if Who Is America? is ending after a single season? And we don’t just mean because at least some public figures are probably going to be extra cautious in the future after everything the show has done. No, we mean that the political landscape has become less and less able to make fun of itself recently, so a series featuring an obnoxious comedian making people look like the morons that they are couldn’t have been expected to go over well.

Who Is America? can be streamed on Hulu with the Showtime add-on and on Showtime Anytime.
