There’s still six weeks until the premiere of Lifetime’s stalker drama YOU but we already know that the show is coming back for Season 2.

Based on the popular novel by Caroline Kepnes, the series stars Gossip Girl bae Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg — a seemingly charming book store manager who actually uses social media to stalk his potential love interests. Once Upon a Time‘s Elizabeth Lail plays his featured victim Beck and Shay Mitchell is her queen bee best friend Peach, who smells a rat on Joe almost immediately. The show was brought to Lifetime by The Magician‘s boss Sera Gamble and Arrow-verse super producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

The show takes an interesting deep-dive through male privilege and toxic masculinity as it explores Joe’s dangerous courtship techniques from his perspective. The angle asks a lot of important questions with dark answers in the wake of the #MeToo era.

Penn Badgley’s New Series YOU Looks Creepy AF

“I’m personally interested to see how people respond to this show, especially now that we’ve just found out about this Season 2 pick-up,” Badgley told journalists at the 2018 Television Critics Association summer press tour. “I personally feel about it that it is a bit of a social experiment because it’s like a litmus test to see what kind of mental gymnastics we’re still willing to perform at a cultural level to love an evil white man.”

The first season sees Joe stalking Beck in New York, using the city’s heavy foot traffic and subway systems to disguise his creeper tactics, but the second season will move the story to the West Coast.

“[The second book] is a brutal take down of Hollywood,” Gamble teased toward the end of the panel. “So we are looking forward to bringing it to Los Angeles and seeing what people around here deserve.”

YOU premieres Sept. 9 at 10/9c on Lifetime.
