The Duffer Brothers have finally spoken up about the allegations of verbal and emotional abuse levied against them by a former Stranger Things crew member.

Last week, Peyton Brown revealed that Matt and Ross Duffer, the co-creators of the hit Netflix series, verbally abused women on the set of the show, causing her to decide against being a part of the series’ forthcoming third season. Brown later clarified that said abuse included “yelling … insults [and] threats and people were even fired or forced to quit because of them.”

The Duffer Brothers finally responded to the allegations on Saturday, issuing a statement (via Deadline) of apology, while also insisting that the show is not an unsafe environment.

“We are deeply upset to learn that someone felt uncomfortable on our set. Due to the high-stress nature of production, tempers occasionally get frayed, and for that, we apologize. However, we think it is important not to mischaracterize our set, where we believe strongly in treating everyone fairly regardless of gender, orientation, race, religion, or anything else. We remain totally committed to providing a safe and collaborative working environment for everyone on our productions.”

Netflix added that the company investigated the issue when Brown’s claims were raised and that they “found no wrongdoing.”

Stranger Things Season 3 is expected to drop in 2019.
