Fox’s insanely wild rescue procedural 9-1-1 returns later this month with a bang — or more like several bangs actually, since a devastating earthquake will give Sgt. Athena Grant (Angela Bassett), Captain Nash (Peter Krause), firefighter Chim (Kenneth Choi) and the rest of the show’s heroes a whole lotta rescuin’ to do in Season 2. You can check it all out in the trailer above.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Dials in to 9-1-1 for Season 2

The second season brings Jennifer Love Hewitt to the fray, playing 911 operator Maddie Kendall and the sister of sexy man-child Buck (Oliver Stark) — the love interest of the (probably departed) Abby, played by Connie Britton. 9-1-1 excels at showing catastrophes that look pulled right out of a Final Destination movie (or maybe just YouTube!) and as this new trailer shows, Season 2 is bringing the crazy calamities big time as a terrifying earthquake causes widespread destruction. Yet Maddie seems to keep her cool as the world starts to collapse around her, keeping her freakout to mild expressions of panic rather than the running and sobbing most of us would do in the same situation. It looks like one of her first days on the job too! Yeesh.

Jennifer Love Hewitt, 9-1-1

Of course, her relative stoicism pales in comparison to the nerves of steel the actual paramedics, cops and firefighters display in saving lives (and apparently hooking up a little too) but for a rookie, she seems like she’s gonna do OK.

9-1-1 returns to Fox with two-night event beginning Sunday, Sept. 23 after the NFL doubleheader, then returns Monday, Sept. 24 in its regular time period 9/8c.
