Mystery solved! Prince Harry’s new ring isn’t a sentimental bauble — it’s a very high-tech activity and sleep tracker.
The Duke of Sussex, 34, has been sporting a new titanium ring on his right hand during his tour of Australia with wife Meghan Markle, sending royal watchers into a frenzy trying to determine its origin. It turns out it’s not a symbol to mark Duchess Meghan’s pregnancy announcement or a piece connected to the Invictus Games.
The ring, created by Finnish tech company Oura Health, is lined with sensors. The company claims that the sensors track body temperature while you sleep, comparing it to previous nights of rest, your activity level during the day and various health stats such as resting heart rate, steps taken and respiratory rate.
Made of titanium and diamond-like carbon coating, a.k.a., DLC, the Oura rings range in price from $299 to $999.
The flame-haired prince broke royal tradition when he chose to wear a wedding ring following his May 19 nuptials to Meghan, unlike his brother Prince William and father Prince Charles, who both do not wear wedding bands. “There’s no way he would skip a chance to wear his love like that,” a royal insider told Us of Harry at the time. “He’s an old-fashioned romantic.”
Indeed, after the couple announced October 15 that they were expecting their first child together, a source told Us Harry was “elated and beside himself.” He hasn’t stopped grinning throughout the 16-day tour. During an address at the Admiralty House on October 16, Harry thanked the Aussie crowd for the “warm welcome,” then, smiling at his wife of five months, added: “We also genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the, er, upcoming baby. Whether it’s a boy or a girl.”
Harry has also gotten increasingly into exercise since he first began dating the retired American actress, 37, who has long been dedicated to health and fitness. Before the wedding, the royal insider revealed to Us that Harry had been going to personal training sessions at KX gym in London’s Chelsea neighborhood, where Meghan is also a member: “Harry is leaner than ever,” said the source. “They’re both in the best shape of their lives.”
