April 14 Helmand Province: a battalion commander killed

Major Sher Ahmad, 215 Maiwand Corps’s commander of Second Battalion, Third Brigade, was killed in the Chah-e-Anjir area of Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, while fighting with the Taliban. Major Ahmad was leading reinforcements against a Taliban assault on an army outpost when he was killed. Two other soldiers were wounded in the fighting. Local authorities claimed that the Taliban also suffered casualties.

April 14 Balkh Province: one police officer killed

The Taliban attacked the villages of Asiab Gorg and Asia Khan in Chimtal District, killing one police officer and wounding three others. Insurgents were pushed back by security forces.

April 14 Badakhshan Province: eight soldiers killed

The Taliban attacked the center of Jurm District from several directions, capturing a security outpost in Pul-e-Soch village. Eight soldiers were killed in the outpost, which was later recaptured by security forces. Local authorities claimed that three Taliban fighters were also killed in the attack.

April 13 Kunduz Province: 14 security forces and six civilians killed

The Taliban attacked Kunduz City, the provincial capital, from three directions, capturing four security outposts in different parts of the city. The attack was repelled by American and Afghan air power. Six police officers, four local police officers, one pro-government militia member and three soldiers were killed in 20 hours of fighting. Six civilians were also killed in the clashes. Eighty-eight were also wounded, including 41 civilians and 47 members of the security forces, who were taken to the regional hospital in Kunduz City. Local authorities claimed that more than 20 Taliban fighters were killed and 20 others were wounded in the clashes and airstrikes.

April 13 Ghazni Province: one civilian killed

A child was killed and two civilians were wounded when police at the entrance of Ghazni City, the provincial capital, fired into the air as a wedding convoy entered the city, hitting one of the convoy vehicles. The officer who opened fire was arrested and will be prosecuted.

April 13 Baghlan Province: eight security forces killed

The Taliban attacked and captured the Kokchinar military base in Baghlan-e-Markazi District, where fighting continued for six hours. Four soldiers, two national police officers and two local police officers were killed, and six members of the security forces were wounded in the clashes. Three soldiers were missing after the attack. The base was later recaptured by security forces.

April 13 Baghlan Province: seven local police officers killed

The Taliban attacked and captured a security outpost in Aabi Mazar area of Nahrin District, killing seven local police officers. Two officers were taken prisoner and a Humvee was destroyed in the three hours of fighting. Reinforcements never arrived despite many requests for backup.
