Awkwafina, the writer, rapper and actress, is about to take her talents to Comedy Central with a self-titled, half-hour sitcom, Deadline reports.

Awkwafina will trace the star’s early years when she was simply a twentysomething chasing viral views with her comedic mixtapes. Set in Queens, N.Y. where Awkwafina was born and raised, the sitcom will also star BD Wong and Lori Tan Chinn as her father and grandmother, respectively. After all, is it really an immigrant kid tale without family to remind of exactly how unrealistic your dreams are?

This intimate look at one hustler’s struggle to achieve her outsized dreams — made all the sweeter by the fact that we know it leads to a breakout role in Crazy Rich Asians — will likely air sometime in 2019. Awkwafina is pulling triple duty on the project, acting, writing, and executive-producing in all 10 episodes.

Awkwafina’s show is pretty much guaranteed to insightful, vulgar, and hilarious if her early internet hits like “My Vag” are anything to go by. The blaccent critiques raised on the Crazy Rich Asians press tour will likely follow her to Comedy Central though, so hopefully the show — particularly as an origin story — finds a meaningful way to engage with it.
