Brooklyn Nine-Nine Renewed by NBC and Saved from Cancellation – Today’s News: Our Take

Brooklynites, throw up the biggest “YERRRR” you got: Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming back.

NBC revived the beloved comedy series a day after Fox canceled it, the network announced late Friday. Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher and the rest will be back for a 13-episode sixth season.

It’s a fitting home for the series, which is produced by the network’s studio sibling Universal TV and is executive-produced by Michael Schur, who has helped define the network’s comedy brand over the past decade with The Office, Parks and Recreation, The Good Place and the upcoming Abby’s.

“Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home,” NBC Entertainmen chairman Robert Greenblatt said. “Mike Schur, [showrunner] Dan Goor and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest and best-cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!“

Immediately after Brooklyn Nine-Nine was canceled, several other networks and streaming platforms expressed interest in picking it up. Hulu came close before passing, but then NBC swooped in and saved it.
