Cue that wistful percussion music, because a new installment in the Sex and the City world is coming… well, sort of. Author Candace Bushnell is set to release a new book called Is There Still Sex in the City?, and it’s already been lined up for potential small-screen adaptation at Paramount TV.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the new story is not expected to be a direct sequel to Bushnell’s earlier book, HBO’s version of Sex and the City, or the resulting films. Instead, it will focus on dating and sex for 50-somethings in New York.

How Miranda Hobbes Became the Face of Underappreciated Women Fighting Back

As Bushnell explained to THR, “It didn’t used to be this way. At one time, fifty-something meant the beginning of retirement — working less, spending more time on your hobbies, with your friends, who like you were sliding into a more leisurely lifestyle. In short, retirement-age folks weren’t meant to do much of anything but get older and a bit heavier. They weren’t expected to exercise, start new business ventures, move to a different state, have casual sex with strangers, and start all over again. But this is exactly what the lives of a lot of fifty- and sixty-something women look like today, and I’m thrilled to be reflecting the rich complexity of their reality on the page and now on the screen.”

Bushnell herself will write the script for the pilot as well as executive produce the potential series alongside Liza Chasin and Robyn Meisinger. She previously wrote the pilot for NBC’s adaptation of her book Lipstick Jungle, and she served as executive producer on The CW’s adaptation of her SATC prequel The Carrie Diaries.

Bushnell’s book Is There Still Sex in the City? will hit shelves on Aug. 6.

Sex and the City is available for streaming on HBO, and The Carrie Diaries is on Netflix.
