RICHMOND, Va. –

CarMax is ramping up its presence in the Dallas area, including plans for a new technology innovation center, auction facility and remote customer experience center.

The used-car retailer plans to hire for more than 300 positions as part of this growth.

Starting with the new auction operations, CarMax is centralizing its store auctions in the area and relocating them to a new 11-acre facility in Hutchins, Texas that should be able to store as much as 3,000 vehicles.

The hub, which is designed to give auction customers one centralized site to source vehicles in the DFW Metroplex, is expected to open by October.  CarMax is hiring 25 associates for this hub, including roles in the business office, auction services and management.

Later this month, CarMax is opening a new technology innovation center in Plano and plans to hire for more than 200 hybrid or fully remote positions, including software engineers, architects, technology managers and technology analysts. These hires would be based in the Dallas-area tech center and in the company’s home market of Richmond, Va.

The teams at the tech innovation center would utilize machine learning, data science and software development to develop tech to make car-buying easier.

“Dallas has built itself up to become a ripe tech and digital environment, and we’re excited to tap into the regional talent and beyond who can help us continue innovating at an accelerated pace,” said Shamim Mohammad, CarMax’s executive vice president and chief information and technology officer, in a news release. “We offer a car buying and selling experience where the customer is at the center of every step and are looking for innovators who can help redefine what the future of car buying looks like. We look forward to becoming part of the Dallas tech community.”

Additionally, CarMax plans to add more than 75 customer experience center associates for remote positions in the Dallas areas. This associate growth is designed to help give more support to customers who want to take care of car-buying remotely.
