Chicago P.D. has found its new interim superintendent.
Following the death of Brian Kelton (John C. McGinley) in the show’s Season 6 finale, the Dick Wolf procedural has recruited Prison Break alum and Shondaland regular Paul Adelstein to join the series in the recurring role of Interim Superintendent Jason Crawford, TVLine reports.
The show’s former police superintendent, Kelton (McKinley), was apparently shot to death in his home by Voight (Jason Beghe) in the recent finale after he won the mayoral election and avoided being connected to the Intelligence Unit’s investigation, culminating in what appeared to be a violent end to his feud with Voight.

Paul Adelstein
Prison Break fans will remember Adelstein as Paul Kellerman, the Secret Service special agent who protected the Lincoln Burrows conspiracy but later became invaluable to taking down The Company.
Adelstein most recently starred in the comedy series I Feel Bad, which was canceled after just one season at NBC. He previously appeared as Dr. Cooper Freedman on Private Practice and as Jake on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, and the actor also enjoyed guest roles as Leo Bergen on Scandal and Seamus Murphy on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Chicago P.D. returns to NBC’s One Chicago Wednesday block this fall.
Season 7 of Chicago P.D. premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c, following Chicago Med and Chicago Fire.
