It’s a miracle: Code Black isn’t dead yet!

Well, not totally dead. After being canceled in May, the medical drama starring Rob Lowe might be receiving a last-minute, life-saving treatment at CBS. When asked about the possibility of renewing Code Black, which averaged 5.6 millions viewers in its recently completed third season, President of CBS Entertainment Kelly Kahl appeared optimistic at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

“We [have considered bringing it back],” Kahl told reporters Sunday morning. “It’s doing incredibly well. It’s a well-done show. We’d like to figure out a way to make it work.”

“Economics were a little challenged on it,” he continued, “but it’s certainly performing well, and we’re going to take a look.”

The series, which shook up its cast ahead of Season 3, follows the skilled doctors of the nation’s busiest emergency room in LA County after reaching code black — meaning they’re treating so many patients that it puts a strain on their resources.

Sunday’s news is obviously far from an official Season 4 renewal, but fans — and Lowe, who has regularly voiced his displeasure about CBS’ decision to cancel the show — should take comfort in knowing that this might not actually be the end.
