Dancing with the Stars Renewed for Season 28 at ABC

Don’t put your dancing shoes in storage yet! Dancing with the Stars has officially been renewed for Season 28.

Dancing with the Stars usually churns out two seasons a year, but for 2019, ABC elected to skip the spring cycle of the show. ABC announced on Friday that the network has officially handed out a renewal to everyone’s favorite footloose series, which will return in the fall as usual. The Bachelor was also renewed at ABC.

Scheduling shenanigans have become a troubling trend for Dancing with the Stars in recent years, considering that the spring season in 2018 — Dancing with the Stars: All Athletes — was shortened, airing over four weeks instead of the regular 10. Then fans had to put up with an entirely skipped cycle in 2019 as Season 28 was pushed to the fall. While there has been no explanation from ABC as to why the network made the decision to omit everyone’s favorite dancing competition from the schedule, it could have something to do with the controversial season that aired most recently.

Season 27 was odd to say the least, with talented front-runners getting the axe long before their time, while more, um, inexperienced dancers continued to progress in the competition. Not to name names or anything, but WTF was Grocery Store Joe doing in the semi-finals? Viewer voting makes up a huge part of why some stars stay and others go, so the series could have finally reached a point where the home voters pack more of a punch than the scoring from the judges’ panel. We’ll have to wait until next season it determine whether this voting trend continues.

Here’s hoping this extended break can hit the reset button on Dancing with the Stars so it can return in better shape for Season 28!
