If vampire romance stories are your thing, but foreign and niche streaming services aren’t, then congratulations; it’s about to get a whole lot easier to watch 2019’s most swoon-worthy new series, A Discovery of Witches.
AMC Networks announced Saturday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that A Discovery of Witches will make its network debut on both AMC and BBC America Sunday, April 7 at 9/8c. Though it premiered in the U.K. on Sky One in 2018, the series found a new influx of viewership when it dropped on Shudder and Sundance Now streaming services. Now that it’s headed to network TV, you can probably expect another surge of fans to fall headfirst into Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode) and Diana Bishop’s (Teresa Palmer) supernatural love affair.
A Discovery of Witches is based on the Deborah Harkness novel of the same name, which tells the story of Diana Bishop, a young but bright witch who has disowned her magical heritage to live a normal life. That life gets rocked to its core, however, when Diana uncovers an elusive manuscript that puts not just witches but vampires and daemons on her tail too. Naturally, one of those vampires, Matthew Clairmont, happens to be a handsome, gracious, slightly tortured immortal who finds himself falling for this witch — something that’s strictly against supernatural law.
