The comedy actress Emmy races are a blend of familiar faces like Allison Janney and Megan Mullally, and newcomers like Rachel Brosnahan and Betty Gilpin. And while two-time winner Kate McKinnon remains in the Supporting Comedy Actress race for her work on Saturday Night Live, with Veep out of the running this year the Lead Comedy Actress category is due for a major shakeup. Because of this, we’re expecting the winners of the comedy actress races will be a split between familiar Emmys faces and some exciting new ones too!

LEAD ACTRESS IN A COMEDY

Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. MaiselRachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

The Nominees:
Pamela Adlon, Better Things
Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Allison Janney, Mom
Issa Rae, Insecure
Tracee Ellis Ross, black-ish
Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie

Who Will Win: Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Amazon’s marketing department ran a very convincing campaign for why Rachel Brosnahan should win this Emmy, and without last year’s winner and Emmys record holder Julia Louis-Dreyfus eligible to vie for her seventh consecutive statue, Brosnahan is definitely the favorite to win.

Who Should Win: Rachel Brosnahan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Brosnahan’s breakout performance is one of those times where an actor’s talent is just undeniable. Five minutes into the Maisel pilot and you’re saying, “Oh yeah, Rachel Brosnahan’s a star.”

Watch Out For: Tracee Ellis Ross, black-ish
Ross has easily been the best comedy actress on a broadcast sitcom for years now. This season, Ross was given some extra-dramatic material and she knocked it out of the park, earning Ross her first Golden Globe in January. She might just score her first Emmy this year too.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY

Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night LiveKate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live

Zazie Beetz, Atlanta
Alex Borstein, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Aidy Bryant, Saturday Night Live
Betty Gilpin, GLOW
Leslie Jones, Saturday Night Live
Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live
Laurie Metcalf, Roseanne
Megan Mullally, Will & Grace

Who Will Win: Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live
Kate McKinnon has the highest usage rate on the most difficult show in comedy. She’s the playoff LeBron James of comedy. But if she wins this Emmy and three-peats, she’s going to be more like Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant.

Who Should Win: Alex Borstein, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Borstein — best known as the voice of Lois Griffin on Family Guy — is doing career-best work with her incredibly complex performance as Midge, Maisel’s prickly manager Susie Myerson. We’re a long way from MadTV and we’d love to see Borstein get the recognition she’s earned.

Watch Out For: Betty Gilpin, GLOW
Gilpin delivered an astounding performance in GLOW‘s recent second season, but that isn’t actually the work she’s nominated for in this Emmys, which may confuse some viewers. However, Gilpin was also great in GLOW‘s freshmen run and she might just be the one to stop McKinnon’s winning streak.

The 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards air Monday, Sept. 17 at 8/7c on NBC
