Fox New Fall Shows Trailers – The Passage, Proven Innocent, Cool Kids, Rel and More! – Today’s News: Our Take

It’s that exciting time of the year when networks unveil the new shows that will be added to their stacked lineups for the upcoming season. This year, Fox is rolling out some interesting projects that will join the likes of Empire and The Orville on the roster.

Among the series slated to make their debut is the thriller The Passage starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar. He plays an FBI agent charged with protecting a young girl who could be the key to saving humanity. The network is also adding the drama, Proven Innocent, starring Rachelle Lefevre as a lawyer who works wrongful convictions. On the comedy side, Tim Allen‘s Last Man Standing has been given new life on Fox after being canceled by ABC last year, and new comedies Rel and Cool Kids will show off the “New Fox” during the 2018-2019 season.

The Passage

What it’s about: Based on the books by Justin Cronin, this post-apocalyptic story centers around a top-secret government experiment with a deadly virus that could either cure the world of diseases or end humanity as we know it. But there’s hope in 10-year-old Amy Bellafonte, played by Hidden Figures‘ Saniyya Sidney, who was chosen as a test subject and could also be the one to save the world. Gosselaar will take on the role of Brad Wolgast, the federal agent tasked with keeping her safe.

Cool Kids

What it’s about: This comedy, which is written by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Charlie Day, centers on four men in a retirement community whose alpha status is challenged by the arrival of a female rebel looking to shake things up. The series features an all-star line up of comedy greats including Vicki Lawrence (Great News), David Alan Grier (The Carmichael Show), Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace) and Martin Mull (Roseanne).

Proven Innocent

What it’s about: This glossy legal drama stars Rachelle Lefevre as a fierce lawyer who leads a team that investigates wrongful convictions to ensure that justice is served. Considered a hero to many, she’s also racked up a few enemies in her quest to right those legal wrongs. The series also stars Russell Hornsby, Nikki M. James, Vincent Kartheiser and Brian d’Arcy James.

Rel

What it’s about: Lil Rel is a prideful, self-made success, who lives by the code of “always believe in yourself and great things will come.” He finds that attitude put to the test when he learns his wife is having an affair with his own barber. He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the South Side of Chicago who’s on a quest for love, respect and a new barber.

Last Man Standing

What it’s about: A fan-favorite for six seasons, the series stars Tim Allen as Mike Baxter, a married father of three girls, who tries to maintain his manliness, despite being surrounded by women. The series also stars Nancy Travis, Jonathan Adams, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders and Jordan Masterson. The series was canceled last year by ABC, but has been given a second chance at life by Fox.

Cosmos: Possible Worlds

What it’s about: Airing as a global event on Fox and National Geographic, Cosmos will return for its third season in Spring 2019, hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the famed pop-culture icon and astrophysicist. Continuing the legacy of its predecessors, Cosmos: Possible Worlds will translate the revelations of science into a lavishly transporting experience, taking audiences on a series of spiritual voyages of exploration. The new season will reveal previously uncharted realms, including lost worlds and worlds to come, and those that we may one day inhabit in a thrilling future we can still have.
