Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 2: Photos Show the Calm Before the Storm

We hate to say it, but winter is still on its way.

It’s a lot closer than it was at the start of Game of Thrones — in fact, the Night King is practically spitting distance from the gates of Winterfell right about now. Nevertheless, it’s not here quite yet, and we’ve got a new batch of photos from the second episode of Season 8, airing Sunday, to prove it.

These new pics from the as-yet-untitled episode showcase more of the calm before the storm. There’s still some strife, of course, especially for Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), as it seems he’ll finally be made to answer for his decision to slay the Mad King and push Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) out of a window. Jaime certainly looks to be out of his element, alone and surrounded by Stark bannermen. Did he make the wrong decision to travel north?

Meanwhile, others appear to be preparing for the war to come — Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey) is suited up in her Bear Island armor, while Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) sup on some soup to stay warm. Even Samwell Tarly (John Bradley) is making time to squeeze in some snuggles with his family before it’s too late.

Judging by the preview footage we got for Sunday’s episode, this quiet moment is probably very, very temporary, and the fabled strength of the fortress is clearly about to be tested once and for all. Click through the gallery below to check out all of the new photos from Episode 2.

Game of Thrones airs on Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
