Move over, Between Two Ferns. Stand-up comedian Tig Notaro has her own new talk show-style series with Funny or Die called Under a Rock With Tig Notaro, and the first episode proves she’ll be serving up just as much humble pie for her celebrity guests as Zach Galifianakis does. But instead of relying on deadpan, Notaro’s ability to deliver insults stems from the fact that she genuinely doesn’t know who these people are. It’s on them to help her figure out what their names are and why they are famous.

The first person to step up to the plate is James Van Der Beek, who uses visual clues, including a picture of a real-life creek, some drawings of a van, and a bird’s beak, to get her to sound out his name and figure out that he’s most known for his work as the titular character in Dawson’s Creek.

Dawson’s Creek‘s Cultural Influence Cannot Be Overstated or Recreated

Despite his best efforts, it never really seems to sink in with Notaro that Van Der Beek was once one of the biggest teen heartthrobs on the planet — although she does credit him with being handsome in the present day.

But fans who know who the actor is are in for a real treat, as Notaro convinces him to re-create the sobbing scene from Dawson’s Creek that now lives in internet infamy. Not only does he pull off that famously pained expression right on the spot, but her response is pretty much perfect. “People are going nuts over this?” she quizzically responds. Exactly, Tig. Exactly.

There’s really only one thing left to do now.
