For the third time this year, the leaders of North and South Korea are meeting face to face.
This week’s summit is in Pyongyang, North Korea’s capital. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is hosting Moon Jae-in, the first South Korean President to travel to Pyongyang in more than a decade.
The two leaders smiled and hugged after Moon arrived on Tuesday. They later rode in an open-topped car through the streets of Pyongyang, waving to thousands of onlookers who had lined the streets.
Their previous meetings this year were at the Demilitarized Zone that divides the two countries.
The first came in April, when a historic summit concluded with a declaration for the two countries to sign a formal peace treaty to end the Korean War. The two countries have technically been at war for almost 70 years now.
Kim and Moon had an impromptu second meeting in May.
On this trip, the two leaders are expected to discuss a host of issues, including economic cooperation, North Korea’s nuclear-weapons program, and further steps to end the Korean War.
