An Arvada woman who owned and operated martial arts schools in the metro area has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver for failure to pay taxes.
Marlene Seo, who ran the National Martial Arts Academy, allegedly committed tax crimes from 2011 through June 2014, according to a U.S. Justice Department news release.
The indictment against Seo was unsealed Thursday. It alleges that from 2011 through 2013 Seo made deposits of income from her martial arts business into bank accounts without notifying her bookkeeper and accountants, resulting in under-reported gross receipts on corporate tax returns for those years.
“The indictment further alleges that from 2012 through June 2014 Seo failed to pay the IRS payroll taxes that she withheld from employees’ paychecks, despite her obligation to do so,” according to a news release.
The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service.
