[Warning: There are spoilers in this recap for Season 1 Episode 6 of Mayans M.C., “Gato/Mis,” obviously. Read at your own risk!]

We’re officially in the back half of Mayans M.C.‘s first season, and the Sons of Anarchy cameos aren’t stopping. But before we get to the big reveal about who showed up (and why I’m so excited for his return), we have to talk about all the f’d up family matters first.

Let’s start with Coco (Richard Cabral) and his sister daughter Leticia (Emily Tosta), who is quickly leapfrogging her way up the ladder of Mayans M.C.‘s best characters. Her dead eyes and casual attitude toward murder are darkly comedic, and Tosta’s deadpan delivery sells it. It was hard for Coco to deal with his daughter being in porn, but now she’s a killer as she head-shanked that truck driver she took off with over what maybe was a misunderstanding (lots of misunderstandings in this show). EZ (JD Pardo) is left to clean up the mess, which gets messier when he finds out the car Leticia was using to carry the corpse around was stolen. A police chase later, EZ is off the hook and washing his shirtless bod (which Leticia notices, of course) back at HQ, though there is that detail about the dead body still in the car that he abandoned. That will either be ignored or come back later for some ass-biting, but for now, Mayans M.C. sweeps it under the rug.

I Loved Sons of Anarchy, but I’m Just Not That Into Mayans M.C.

That kind of trouble and coverup is what passes for family bonding in Mayans M.C., and Coco and Leticia’s relationship jumps to the next level thanks to it. It’s actually warm and fuzzy watching these two sociopaths — Leticia is most certainly Coco’s daughter, judging by how nonchalant she is when smashing a screwdriver into someone — connect and give family a shot. It’s also just hopeful enough that you know something awful is going to happen to one or both of them down the line, because that’s just how Kurt Sutter works. Hopefully she doesn’t end up barbecued in a pit, like Tig’s kid.

The hush-hush about getting rid of the body and keeping Leticia’s true identity secret only further piques Bishop’s (Michael Irby) suspicions that Coco is the rat in the club. Coco is in real danger here, and if he gets killed over misinformation, then that’s a crime. Don’t do it, Mayans. EZ also overheard Bishop asking about Leticia, which could lead to Bishop finding out that Angel (Clayton Cardenas) is working with the rebels. This whole show is a minefield, and every character is playing Red Light, Green Light in it.

More parents connect with their kids in the Galindo-Olvidados story, as Adelita (Carla Barrata) finally makes ransom demands for Miguel’s (Danny Pino) kid Cristobal (a baby). Miguel agrees to the terms, and thanks to one rat fink kid who gave them the coordinates where the rebels were hiding out, tells his men to slaughter all the rebels once the kid is in his clutches. But parents eager to get their kids back are too susceptible to exploitation and the joke’s on Miggy, because not only did he get the wrong coordinates of where the rebels were, the rebels stuffed his kid’s blanket with heroin so he got busted crossing the border. How will a filthy-rich, super-powerful, well-connected businessman find his way out of jail?

As for the rebels, it’s an interesting play. They have to know that Miguel will be able to beat a charge like that through his influence, and at best having him thrown in the clink is just a temporary inconvenience, right? Meanwhile, they big leverage they had on Miguel — his kidnapped son — is gone. It’s possible that giving Cristobal back was a disguised move of compassion and that while the rebels are willing to play dirty, family separation isn’t part of their creed.

There was one more connection that was made: one between the tattle-tale rebel kid and a pile of broken glass 30 feet below him! Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.C. are known for squeamish violent acts, but watching a betrayed rebel girl push the kid who gave the Galindo cartel the rebel coordinates off a building to his death crosses a line into “HOLY CRAP, I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY DID THAT, IT WAS AWESOME!” That’s what you get for messing with the rebels, dumbass.

The Cast of Mayans M.C. Tells Us Who Is the Best and Worst at Motorcycle Riding

“Gato” saved its biggest surprise for last. In the post-montage final scene, EZ was closing up shop when a mysterious male voice said, “Lovely night for a walk.” It’s a recognizable voice, and it’s only when the camera pulls up to show his face that we see it’s Lincoln frickin’ Potter (Ray McKinnon)! We last saw Potter back in the Season 4 finale of Sons of Anarchy screwing over Jacob Hale, but it appears the assistant US attorney is back to poke around the activities of the Mayans. While I’m not usually one to like more wild cards thrown into Mayans’ already stacked deck, the eccentric Lincoln was one of Sons’ most magnetic characters, and having him in the mix can only mean good things.

Sons of Anarchy was often at its best when it thickened the tension by setting the table up for explosive events, and that’s exactly what “Gato/Mis” did for Mayans M.C. Just leave Coco alone, and things will be all right.

Mayans M.C. airs Tuesday nights at 10/9c on FX.
