AMC and ITV have ordered a three-part drama, Quiz, based on the true story of a couple who attempted an “audacious heist” on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and Sian Clifford (Fleabag) are set to star as the couple, Charles and Diana Ingram, who were convicted of cheating their way to a million pounds on the U.K. version of the popular game show in 2001. Michael Sheen will play the show’s host, Chris Tarrant, and Helen McCrory will play the couple’s lawyer, Sonia Woodley, QC.

Sarah Barnett, President of the Entertainment Networks Group at AMC Networks said: “If this tale was invented you’d think it too preposterous — the fact that it is true, and told so brilliantly, makes for an unmissable three-part TV event that will entertain and enthrall Americans audiences every bit as much as their British counterparts. Quiz has the most remarkable bunch of talented people attached both in front of and behind the camera, and we, at AMC, are delighted to be part of it.”

Quiz is directed by Stephen Frears and written by James Graham, based on Graham’s play of the same name.

Mark Bonnar, Michael Jibson, and Aisling Bea also star.

Filming on the miniseries is currently underway in London.
