5 Things to Watch Today – July 11, 2017

Once Upon a Time‘s series finale is right around the corner, and it’s still somehow impossible to imagine that this show is actually ending. After seven years of adventures, how can all these stories possibly wrap up in only one more hour?

According to creators and executive producers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, it will be an emotional episode that not only gives the fans what they want but also honors Horowitz and Kitsis’ vision for the show itself.

“What we decided first and foremost is we have to love [the finale],” Kitsis says. “At the same time, we kept the fans’ hearts in mind, and so we tried to do a finale that reminded everybody why they loved the show to begin with.”

“In our own ways, we are fans,” Horowitz adds. “We love these characters, we love this world so much. So we really had to trust our instincts and trust that where we want it to go would be right if it felt right, and to us it did feel right. And we really hope everyone agrees.”

Which Once Upon A Time Reunions To Expect in the Series Finale

When you think about it, writing a finale that satisfies everyone is kind of an impossible task to take on, especially considering all the characters (old and new) that need to find happy endings before the curtain closes. Not to mention, there are quite a few timelines converging at once in this episode along with several major reunions, and possibly goodbyes, the audience wants and needs to see.

While the writers obviously couldn’t press every emotional button at their disposal in this episode, executive producer David H. Goodman is confident fans will get the closure they’re looking for in this finale.

“I’m hoping for bittersweet to sweet,” Goodman says of how fans will react to the twist and turns of the final episode. “I think we have a really nice finale that I think is going to give people emotionally what they want and also set the table so that they can imagine where things are going forward for all these characters that are going to remain alive, not just for me but for all of the fans too.”

Once Upon a Time‘s series finale airs Friday, May 18 at 8/7c on ABC.
