Part of a New Jersey highway is closed because of falling debris.

The westbound lanes of Route 3 were shut down for hours due to falling concrete from the Route 46 overpass. As of 3 a.m. Wednesday, the right lane had reopened to traffic, but the left lane remained closed.

Traffic was being detoured at Grove Street in Clifton.

New Jersey Department of Transportation crews are on the scene evaluating the situation, but they are not sure whether the road would be fully reopened in time for Wednesday’s morning commute. Work was expected to continue through the night.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether debris landed on any vehicles or whether anybody was injured.

New Jersey Transit says bus service traveling on Route 3 are subject to residual delays. Express bus service will operate on the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 80.
