The explosive trailer for Peaky Blinders Season 5 is here, and it looks like Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) is going to go through more than just the usual adjustment period as he steps into his new role as a Member of Parliament.
In the trailer, he brags about this power grab in voiceover, saying, “There is God, and there are the Peaky Blinders. We own the ropes. Who’s gonna hang us now, hey?” That confidence might be a bit misplaced, however, because the weight of the office could be heavier than anything he carried in his crime boss days. As his sister Ada (Sophie Rundle) warns, “No one is gonna hang you, Tommy. You’re going to hang yourself.”
Of course, as Tommy sees it, “Sometimes death is a kindness.”
The footage also introduces a new threat in Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin), the leader of the British Union of Fascists who takes an ominous interest in Tommy. Later, Mosley is shown rallying his high society supporters as a crowd of street protesters demand his ouster, so it looks like he’s going to have his own struggles to deal with.
Anya Taylor-Joy also joins the cast.
Peaky Blinders Season 5 is expected to premiere later in 2019.
Seasons 1-4 are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
