Two days after ABC canceled the Roseanne revival after Roseanne Barr made a racist remark about former Obama aid Valerie Jarrett, many are demanding that Samantha Bee‘s show be canceled for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c–t.”
During a Full Frontal segment on Wednesday, the comedian criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policies, which have separated undocumented families while in custody of ICE authorities. Bee called out Ivanka Trump for posting a photo with her son amid reports that the government lost track of 1,500 children, calling it the “second most oblivious tweet” shared this week.
“That’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c–t. He listens to you,” Bee said.
In the wake of the controversial remark, many on social media have compared her vulgar comment to Roseanne’s racist tweet including morning show host Megyn Kelly. “This is disgusting. How is this acceptable? And how are we expected to take any of these publications seriously if they gleefully repost something like this at the same time they (rightfully) condemn @therealroseanne? You know the saying Love is Love? Well Hate is Hate,” she wrote.
The White House also took offense to Bee’s segment and issued a public statement denouncing the comedian while also demanding that TBS and Time Warner cancel her show.
“The language used by Samantha Bee last night is vile and vicious. The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, as reported by Deadline. “Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”
On Thursday, Bee issued an apology for the remark, saying she crossed a line. “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,” she wrote on Twitter.
TBS has pulled the segment from YouTube. However, as of the publishing of this post, it remains up on Facebook.
Here’s what others on social media had to say about Bee’s remark towards Ivanka Trump.

Shame on you, Samantha Bee. You are part of the problem. I wonder what your kids think of you? https://t.co/qpLNIXYHRI

The Samantha Bee and Roseanne controversies are just proving that there’s a clear double standard and certain people can say whatever they want and get away with it while others get punished for it Either let everyone voice their opinion no matter how bad or take away free speech

Can you imagine if @iamsambee had made the same joke about Chelsea Clinton or the Obama daughters? ZERO chance @TBSNetwork would allow her disgusting show to continue.

I have no problem calling for the firing of Samantha Bee. Her show is atrocious and her rhetoric is vile and revolting. TBS should get rid of her and we should demand they do so. I supported ABC firing Roseanne and I will call for TBS to be held to same standard.

However, many on Twitter have also come to Bee’s defense, pointing out that her situation is not comparable to Roseanne’s.
Yes we can talk about it..but first let’s talk about this:
1. Ivanka is 36. Malia was 10 when she entered the White House
2. Ivanka is a senior administration official..
3. @iamsambee is a comic
4. Your tweet is ridiculous https://t.co/W7y7S0mewG— Kathy Griffin (@kathygriffin) May 31, 2018
No, the point you are missing is both have the right to say what they want. It doesn’t protect them from losing their jobs over what they choose to say. Samantha bee may be fired over this, that is up to the network to decide and it’s a private business, they can choose to fire.

If you think Samantha Bee’s vulgarity is equivalent to racism then you’re either ignorant, maliciously dishonest, or a racist yourself. #GTFOH

“Samantha Bee” If you don’t know the difference between another racial slur (from an established racist) & profanity, you’re part of the ignorance that brought us this administration. And if you’re white telling PoC that Roseanne just made a “joke”, you’re a racist too! Congrats

The difference between Roseanne and Samantha Bee; Roseanne tried to utilize stereotype to attack someone who wasn’t doing anything. Samantha Bee uses her platform to request the US stops separating families. You swing up when you can. I pity you if you think it’s comparable.

Sorry, poorly educated…NOTHING will happen to Samantha Bee because she DID NOT disparage Ivanka’s race or heritage. She used a dirty label to accurately described an unelected charlatan that’s undermining our democracy…VERY DIFFERENT from being racist to black people 💯📩

Comedienne Samantha Bee can call Ivanka Trump a feckless c-word on her comedy show. If she then goes on to tweet that Ivanka is a dirty Jew with horns, I’ll join you in protesting her TBS show, but there is a difference between coarse language, political opinion and bigotry.
