Sarah Drew was fired from Grey’s Anatomy last Friday. On Tuesday, she got a potentially cushy new job.

Drew will headline the pilot of CBS’ reboot of Cagney and Lacey, according to The Hollywood Reporter, meaning the actress — who has been on Grey’s Anatomy for the past nine seasons as April — was unemployed for a whole three days. Drew will play Cagney in the series about two female detectives — the younger, easy-going Cagney and the empathetic mentor Lacey — in Los Angeles. Michelle Hurd, who recently recurred on Blindspot as the villain Shepherd, will play Lacey.

Drew and co-star Jessica Capshaw were let go from Grey’s Anatomy as the long-running ABC drama prepares for its 15th season, coming next fall. Showrunner Krista Vernoff explained the reasons for the departures, sort of: “Our job is to follow the stories where they want to go and sometimes that means saying goodbye to characters we love.”

The original Cagney & Lacey ran from 1982 to 1988 on CBS and is the latest series to get another shot at primetime. CBS is particularly reboot happy, with pilots for Magnum P.I. and Murphy Brown also in contention for next season. Given Cagney & Lacey‘s ability to fit into two things CBS desperately adores right now — police procedurals, female-forward dramas — I’d put money on it being on the fall schedule.
