Lucy Hale Reacts to Ezria Baby Reveal on The Perfectionists

Eighteen years after Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack found each other through a series of fortunate coincidences in Serendipity, the rom-com may see a new life on the small screen. NBC has given a script commitment for a series inspired by the 2001 film, Variety reports.

The untitled project will center on Harry and Claire, who “fall in love one fateful night, are separated by circumstance, and then spend years trying to find one another again…with a little help from the universe,” per the official logline. From the sounds of it, the series will follow a similar story to the film, in which Cusack and Beckinsale’s characters meet and fall in love, but then spend the rest of the movie’s 93 minutes searching for and just barely missing each other before their ultimate reunion. If that frustrating premise made you swoon instead of scream at the screen, then cross your fingers and hope that this series sees the light of day.

The project is being developed at Miramax Television, whose film division housed the original movie. Jonny Umansky, who wrote the 2016 Legends of the Hidden Temple TV movie, will pen the script and serve as executive producer if the series is made. “I’ve been madly in love with this movie for more than half my life,” Umansky told Variety. “Never has the world needed a show like Serendipity more, and the love stories we have in store are big, bold and filled to the brim with whimsy and wonder.”

No word yet on who would lead the romantic series, but we’re holding out hope for cameos from the film’s main stars.
